Our 6th grade orientation program that runs prior to the start of school each Fall.

Similar to a pep assembly. The Bulldawg Games is an all-school event where each grade wears "Color Out T-shirts" to show their school spirit. T-shirts may be purchased through Student Council or students may opt to wear their own (red, black, or white, depending on grade).
breakfast club / late start
A great option if you need to drop your child off early. No registration or fee for students to hang out in the cafeteria Mon-Fri from 7:15 a.m. until 7:50 a.m. with adult supervision. Enter the school through the back/side doors on Austin Ave.
buSses
Students can ride SMART Route 430 to ROMS with a stop in front of the school (Washington and Austin). Use one of the many SMART routes that service the entire district to connect you to Route 430 at the Royal Oak Transit Center. SMART Route 430 Main Street directly serves both the middle school and high school with trips in the morning arriving at 7:31 AM and 7:40 AM respectively with connections at SMART’s Royal Oak Transit Center (ROTC). connectors (7/8)
ROMS Connectors are a volunteer group of 7th & 8th grade students who serve as leaders for activities throughout the school year. They also help with the 6th grade orientation program, Bulldawg Bound. This group is supported and supervised by guiding teachers.

curriculum night
ROMS Curriculum Night gives you a chance to walk through your child's schedule, meet all their teachers, and hear class expectations and guidelines from each teacher. Your child does NOT need to attend. On Curriculum Night you should come with a copy of your child's schedule (you can print this out in the Parent Portal or just view it on your phone), head to your child's 1st hour, a notification will sound when it's time for you to move on to the next class. If possible, leave your student at home to eliminate any space issues inside the classrooms. The Washington DC meeting (for 8th grade parents) and Camp meeting (for 6th grade parents) are both held on this night as well.

No school buses means heavy traffic during drop-off and pick-up! PLEASE follow the guidelines shown on this map to ensure the safety of all our students. Always let kids out on the sidewalk side of the street. A crossing guard is stationed in front of the school to help students cross Washington Ave.

The preferred method for organizing students' subjects, they are folders with pockets and fasteners to keep loose sheets of paper in place. ROMS encourages you to color coordinate your folders with your spiral notebooks for each subject:

gathering place
The Gathering Place is located in the center of the school. It's a place where ROMS holds events such as Career Day, Dances, and more.
gatorball tournament
This is a dodgeball tournament run by Student Council to benefit Relay for Life. It takes place in the spring and there are student and teacher players (20 teams on a first-come, first-serve basis).
google classrooms
Many ROMS teachers use Google Classroom for their class. If your child's teachers use Google Classroom, your child can download the Google Classroom app on their phone to stay updated on deadlines, assignments, and communications from their teacher.

late starts
On approximately 25 pre-determined Wednesdays, students start one hour later. This provides time for teachers' professional development. LEAP
LEAP stands for Learning, Enrichment, Achievement, Principles. It is a 20-minute class in the middle of the school day where students listen to announcements, read silently, or complete homework. Students also discuss the MYP Learner Profile Traits and have class discussions regarding bullying.

lunch periods
Regular daily lunch periods are for 6th graders from 11:51 to 12:21; 7th graders from 10:52 to 11:22; 8th graders from 12:22 to 12:52.
lunch payments
Students pay for lunch using a personal account and their student ID number. At the cashier, they enter their student ID number on the keypad, and pay with money from their prepay account, with cash, or both. Students eligible for free or reduced priced meals will also enter their student ID number and will be provided with a meal at no charge. Students should drop off prepayments in the school cafe any morning. Money left at the end of the year will be carried into the next year (including those moving on to ROHS).

Enter through the "main" doors on the south side of school and press the buzzer on the wall. You must pass through the main office, sign in, and wear a Visitor Badge in order to enter to the school.

Students earn Bulldog Dollars for doing good things in class. Trade these for items in the PBIS Store.
phys ed
Physical Education classes are broken into 3 sessions during the school year: Gym, Pool, and Health. New for 2016-17, the P.E. uniforms are black mesh shorts (8-9” inseam) and ash-colored T-shirts with “Royal Oak Schools." The cost is $10 for the shorts/$10 for T-shirt and come in sizes S - 3XL and available during P.E. classes. You may also choose to purchase any grey t-shirt and black mesh shorts for your child.
physicals
All athletes must have a physical dated after April 15th of current year in order for it to be valid. Bring your completed physical along with your pay to participate fee to sports registration.

Students are given a spiral bound planner during registration. Lost planners may be replaced for a $5 fee and by visiting the student's grade level office.

Supply Lists are posted on the ROMS website each summer. But it is advisable to wait until the first week of school as your child's teachers may have specific requests.
talent show
The Student Council hosts an annual performance for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who wish to showcase their talents in a winter talent show. Auditions and permission slips are required to participate in the show.
trivia night
The Student Council hosts an annual Trivia Night charity fundraiser. More information can be found on the Student Council website.

uniforms for gym
The P.E. uniforms are black mesh shorts (8-9” inseam) and ash-colored T-shirts with “Royal Oak Schools." The cost is $10 for the shorts/$10 for T-shirt and come in sizes S - 3XL. If families choose to purchase P.E. gear elsewhere, the clothing still must meet the same specs as detailed above.
vestibules
Students may wait in the vestibule areas after school until their ride arrives.
visitors
Visitors must sign-in/out at the main office and wear a Visitor's Badge.
8th grade celebration (graduation)
Held the day before school gets out, 8th grade "grads" are celebrated with a ceremony for families and, immediately following, an 8th grade-only dance.

8th grade visit to ROHS
8th graders have a chance to visit ROHS in the winter to tour the school and get scheduling information for their 9th grade year.

An 8th grade dance is held in the Spring immediately after the 8th Grade Celebration.

7th Graders have the chance to attend a Toledo Mud Hens game in the Spring.

7th Graders have the chance to attend an educational field trip to Henry Ford Museum in the Spring.
